Compliance paperwork rarely makes the news, but it makes the Q4 difference between a listing that sells and a listing that is suppressed. Amazon has replaced its one form per product per store filing with a bulk tool, and September is the month to use it.
What happened
Sellers can now submit test request forms across multiple products and multiple stores in a single action, instead of filing one form per product per store. The change applies to products that require third-party testing, inspection and certification (PPC Land, September 5).
It sits inside a wider shift. Under direct product validation, several regulated categories no longer accept a seller uploaded certificate. The seller selects an Amazon authorised lab, the lab runs the check and the result flows back into the listing record (SellerEngine on Amazon's testing and certification requirements).
Why it matters
The old workflow punished catalogue breadth. A brand selling 40 regulated ASINs across five European stores was filing 200 forms, each one a chance to mistype an ASIN or forget a marketplace. Most sellers dealt with that by filing reactively, one compliance notice at a time, which is a workable habit in March and an expensive one in November.
A suppressed listing does not cost you a fee. It costs you the whole unit, plus the rank you spent the year building, plus whatever inventory is now sitting in a fulfilment centre paying peak storage rates. That is why a batching tool matters more in September than the announcement itself suggests.
What to do in the next 72 hours
- Pull every ASIN with an open compliance request. Include marketplaces you rarely check, because the requirement is per store.
- Group them by category and by lab. The bulk tool pays off when the batch is coherent, not when it is a single dump of everything.
- Rank the batch by revenue at risk. File your peak season earners first, then the tail.
- Diary the lab turnaround. Testing takes real calendar time, so a form filed in late October may not clear before Black Friday.
- Check FBM listings too. The requirement follows the category and the listing, not the fulfilment method.
The Nova angle
A compliance problem shows up in your numbers as sales that stop, usually before anyone reads the notice. Nova flags listing status changes per ASIN and per marketplace, so a suppression in one store is visible the same day rather than at month end. See Nova listing health and Profit & Loss.
