How the sales estimate is built

Two data sources, one answer. Nova prefers Amazon-reported actuals and falls back to a calibrated BSR model when those aren't available.

01

Live Amazon listing pull

We fetch the latest product snapshot from the Amazon listing: title, Buy Box price, current and 30-day average BSR, and the "bought past month" figure when Amazon publishes it.

02

Category-specific BSR model

When Amazon doesn't publish a monthly sales figure, we apply a per-category curve (Home & Kitchen, Beauty, Electronics, Toys, and 9 more) calibrated against real seller data.

03

Revenue math

Estimated units multiplied by the current Buy Box price gives estimated monthly revenue. For true profitability after fees, COGS, and PPC, plug the ASIN into the FBA calculator.

Works across every Amazon category

Nova applies a separate calibrated BSR curve for each top-level category, so a rank of 1,000 in Beauty doesn't get scored the same way as a rank of 1,000 in Books.

What sellers do with the estimate

An ASIN-level sales estimate is the starting point for product research, competitor tracking, and inventory planning.

Validate a product idea

Check the top 5-10 ranking ASINs for your target keyword. If the median seller is moving 300+ units a month at $20+, there's real demand.

Then size your unit economics in the FBA calculator

Track a competitor

Estimate how many units a competing ASIN sells today, then watch its rank trajectory over time inside Nova's BSR tracker.

Plan inventory for a launch

Use the estimated monthly demand at a target BSR to forecast how many units to manufacture for your first PO.

Pair with Nova's inventory analytics

Pitch a wholesale or PL deal

Brand owners and agencies use ASIN-level monthly sales to size opportunity decks before approaching a manufacturer or a retail partner.

How Nova's estimator is different

Most free estimators ask you to pick a category and type a BSR by hand. Nova starts from the ASIN.

How the estimate is calibrated

Nova builds a separate BSR-to-units curve for each top-level Amazon US category, fitted on hundreds of thousands of real seller orders moving through the platform every month. When Amazon publishes a "bought past month" figure on the listing, Nova passes that exact number through instead of estimating. For ranks under 50,000 the estimate typically lands within 20-40% of actuals; accuracy degrades for very fresh listings and very long-tail SKUs where Amazon's own rank signal becomes noisier. Live ASIN data is refreshed on demand so the BSR and Buy Box price you see match the current listing.

Want sales data for your whole catalog?

Nova syncs every ASIN in your Seller Central account hourly, across 21 marketplaces, with 200+ Amazon metrics and a full P&L underneath. Sales estimates become real numbers.

Paste any 10-character ASIN and Nova fetches the live Buy Box price, current best sellers rank, and (when Amazon publishes it) the 'bought past month' figure directly from the Amazon listing. When that figure isn't available, we estimate monthly units from a category-specific BSR model calibrated on hundreds of thousands of real Amazon orders.

When Amazon shows a 'bought past month' badge on the listing, we pass that exact number through. Otherwise we use a BSR-based curve calibrated per top-level category (Home & Kitchen, Beauty, Electronics, etc.) on real seller data. Estimates typically land within 20-40% of actuals for ranks under 50,000. They get noisier for very long-tail or very fresh listings.
The free estimator currently covers amazon.com (US). Nova's full Seller Cockpit covers 21 marketplaces with their own per-region BSR curves, currency conversion, and fee schedules.
Most estimators ask you to pick a category and type a BSR by hand. Nova's version starts from an ASIN, pulls the live BSR and price for you, and returns the actual Amazon-reported monthly sales when available. One field, one click, no guesswork.
Yes - that's the most common use. Find a competing ASIN, paste it in, and you get an estimate of how many units they move per month plus their current Buy Box price. Inside Nova you can track those ASINs over time alongside your own catalog.
