IPI Score
Essential Amazon seller metric for operations
Inventory Performance Index (IPI) is Amazon's 0-1000 score that measures how efficiently a seller manages FBA inventory. It blends four signals: sell-through rate, in-stock rate, stranded inventory percentage, and excess inventory percentage. An IPI under 450 triggers FBA storage volume restrictions for the next quarter.

IPI = weighted score (0-1000) of: Sell-Through Rate + In-Stock Rate + Stranded Inventory % + Excess Inventory %A seller with 1,800 IPI sell-through (good), 96% in-stock rate (good), 1.2% stranded inventory (good), and 18% excess inventory (average) might score around 580 IPI — comfortably above the 450 threshold but with room to improve by cutting excess stock. A seller with the same sell-through but 35% excess inventory often falls below 450 and faces storage limits.
| Tier | Range / Signal |
|---|---|
| Good | Above 600 — preferred performance band; unrestricted storage |
| Average | 450-600 — safe but exposed; small misses can trigger restrictions |
| Watch out | Below 450 — FBA storage volume restrictions apply for the next quarter |
IPI Score is measured in Score (0-1000) and reported through Inventory Performance Dashboard. Data is typically updated weekly.
Note:
Score below 450 triggers storage limits and restrictions. Components: Excess inventory, sell-through, stranded inventory, in-stock rate.
