What happened

New cities include Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ambala, Mangalore, Manipal, Vizag, Kochi, Bhubaneswar and Karwar.
Orders are fulfilled through close to 800 micro-fulfilment and urban fulfilment centres, Amazon says.

Why it matters

The expansion goes well beyond the metro cities where quick commerce started. Smaller cities such as Abohar and Changanassery now get delivery in minutes from Amazon, which puts a dark-store assortment in front of shoppers who used to wait days.

For sellers in essentials, beauty and small appliances, that is a separate demand channel with its own constraint: a small store can only hold so many SKUs. Products that are not in the assortment do not get the minutes-level delivery badge, however well they rank on the main site.

For festival deals, check stock depth per city, not just in total. A dark store can run out long before your main warehouse does.
Track your sales in the new cities separately for the festival weeks, so you can tell new demand from demand shifting off standard delivery.
