How do I get VAT invoices from Amazon?

For sellers on EU or UK marketplaces, Amazon provides VAT invoices through the Tax Document Library and the Amazon VAT Calculation Service. Enable VCS to auto-issue compliant B2B invoices to buyers. Download seller-facing fee invoices monthly from Reports > Tax Document Library.

What VCS does

Auto-issues VAT invoices to B2B buyers, calculates the right VAT rate per jurisdiction and product, and enables the buyer to reclaim VAT. It is a requirement to compete on Amazon Business in the EU.

What you still owe

You still file VAT returns per country of registration. VCS calculates it; it does not file it for you. Use a VAT filing partner (Avalara, Hellotax, Amazon VAT Services) if the country count grows.

Frequently asked questions

Is VCS free?

Yes, VCS itself is free. Filing partners have their own fees.

Do I need VAT registration in every EU country I sell in?

It depends on storage location (Pan-EU triggers registration in each country) and OSS eligibility. See marketplace-specific guidance.

Can I invoice manually?

Yes for B2C. B2B usually requires VAT-compliant automated invoicing.

Amazon UK VAT: what US sellers need to know

Any US seller shipping to the UK or storing inventory in a UK FBA warehouse must register for UK VAT with HMRC before selling. UK VAT is 20% standard rate. Amazon collects and remits VAT on your behalf for many transactions (MFR rules), but registration and periodic filings remain the seller's responsibility.

Pan-EU FBA vs EFN: which should I use?

Pan-EU FBA lets Amazon distribute inventory across EU fulfilment centres for lower fees and faster delivery, but requires VAT registration in every country Amazon stores inventory (typically DE, FR, IT, ES, PL, CZ). EFN (European Fulfilment Network) keeps inventory in one country and ships cross-border with higher fees but only one VAT registration.

What is IOSS and do I need it for EU sales?

IOSS (Import One-Stop-Shop) is an EU scheme that lets non-EU sellers collect and remit VAT on B2C shipments under 150 EUR through a single quarterly return. It speeds customs clearance and prevents buyers from getting hit with unexpected customs fees. Amazon handles IOSS for FBA orders under 150 EUR.

What is the difference between Amazon Business Reports and Brand Analytics?

Business Reports show what happened on your listings: sessions, page views, buy box, unit-session percentage. Brand Analytics shows what shoppers did across the whole marketplace: which search terms drove clicks and purchases, which ASINs share cart with yours, and repeat purchase behavior.

How do I build an ASIN-level P&L from Amazon reports?

Combine settlement data (revenue, fees, refunds), advertising reports (ad spend per SKU via product-level attribution), and your COGS file. Roll up weekly and monthly per ASIN. Most sellers underestimate refunds and product-level PPC when they build this themselves.
