An estimate is fine. The billed number is better.

This calculator gives you a planning number. Nova gives you the charge Amazon actually applied, allocated to the SKU that caused it, next to the margin it consumed.

  • Storage is billed on cubic feet, so packaging volume costs you every single month
  • Q4 rates roughly triple, which turns a slow October into an expensive January invoice
  • Aged inventory surcharges compound on top of the base rate, they do not replace it
  • Storage is the fee sellers most often forget to allocate per SKU, so margin looks better than it is

How Amazon storage fees work

Amazon bills storage on volume, not on units. It measures the average daily cubic feet your inventory occupied during the month, multiplies that by the rate for your size tier, and adds the charge to the following month's settlement. That is why two SKUs selling the same number of units can carry very different storage costs: the bulkier one pays for air.

From October to December the standard-size rate roughly triples. Sellers who ship Q4 stock in early October pay peak rates on every unit that has not sold, which is the single most common reason January margins look worse than December revenue suggested.

Past 181 days, the aged inventory surcharge stacks on top of base storage and escalates at 271 and 366 days. Combined with fulfillment fees and referral fees, storage is one of the three costs that decide whether a slow mover is merely unexciting or actively destroying profit. Nova puts all of them in one P&L per SKU, so you can rank products by profit after storage rather than by revenue.

The P&L view captures everything Amazon-related

The P&L view is the big one. It captures everything Amazon-related with the granularity to track down every unexpected expense, giving me a real profit statement I can run the business off of. No more guessing margins or waiting for end-of-month reconciliation.

Just go for it. You won't regret it

The Nova team has built something truly special. The days of clunky Looker Studio dashboards are over. They are communicative and collaborative, and work hard to make the platform as helpful as possible for their users.

Amazon storage fees: frequently asked questions

Monthly rates, peak season, aged inventory and what shows up on your settlement.

Amazon charges monthly inventory storage on cubic feet, not units. On the US marketplace the published rates are $0.78 per cubic foot for standard size and $0.56 for oversize from January to September, rising to $2.40 and $1.40 from October to December. A 12 x 10 x 8 inch unit is 0.56 cubic feet, so roughly $0.43 a month off peak and $1.33 in Q4.
Amazon measures the average daily volume your inventory occupies over the month, multiplies it by the rate for your size tier, and bills it in the following month's settlement. Because it is an average, stock that arrives on the 20th costs about a third of a full month.
On top of monthly storage, Amazon charges an aged inventory surcharge on units that have been in fulfillment centers past 181 days, and it escalates sharply at 271 and 366 days. This is where slow movers stop being a small cost and start eating the margin of the SKUs that fund them.
Three usual reasons: Amazon uses its own measured dimensions rather than yours, the charge is based on average daily volume across the month, and aged inventory surcharges are billed separately. The only exact number is the one on your settlement report, which is what Nova reads.
Yes. Nova pulls storage and aged-inventory charges from your settlement data and allocates them per SKU inside your P&L, alongside referral fees, FBA fulfillment fees, PPC, refunds and COGS. You see what storage costs you as a share of each product's margin, not just a line total.
Ship less, more often, so less volume sits through October to December at triple the rate. Cut aged units before the 181 day threshold, reduce packaging volume where it does not change the size tier, and check which SKUs carry the highest storage cost per dollar of profit rather than the highest absolute cost.
