Estimate the value of units Amazon lost, damaged or never returned

Amazon reimburses on its own valuation of the item, usually anchored to recent selling price net of the fees it would have taken. Enter your numbers for a planning estimate.

Reimbursements belong in your P&L, not in a spreadsheet

Nova is an analytics platform, not a claims service. It does not file cases and it does not chase Amazon for you. What it does is make sure the credits you receive show up as their own line item, so your margin reflects trading performance rather than one-off recoveries.

  • Reimbursement credits are income, not sales, and they distort margin when they are not separated
  • Refunds, returns and reimbursements move in the same weeks, so read them together
  • Per-SKU visibility shows which products generate the losses in the first place
  • Settlement data is the only record of what was actually credited

How Amazon values a reimbursement

When a unit is lost in a fulfillment center, damaged in the warehouse, or refunded to a customer without ever coming back to your inventory, Amazon may credit you for it. The amount is Amazon's own estimate of the item's value, typically anchored to what the item has recently sold for on your account, net of the fees Amazon would have charged on that sale.

That is why the useful planning number is net proceeds per unit rather than the sticker price: the credit is closer to what you would have banked than to what the customer would have paid. Your cost of goods is the floor, since below it the event is a straight loss regardless of any credit.

From an accounting point of view the important part is what happens next. A credit lands on your settlement report and, if nothing separates it, quietly boosts the margin of whatever period it fell in. Nova keeps it visible next to refunds, fee lines and COGS inside a single P&L per SKU, so a strong month is strong for reasons you can name.

The P&L view captures everything Amazon-related

The P&L view is the big one. It captures everything Amazon-related with the granularity to track down every unexpected expense, giving me a real profit statement I can run the business off of. No more guessing margins or waiting for end-of-month reconciliation.

Just go for it. You won't regret it

The Nova team has built something truly special. The days of clunky Looker Studio dashboards are over. They are communicative and collaborative, and work hard to make the platform as helpful as possible for their users.

Replaced hours of reporting with one dashboard

I manage multiple brands and Cockpit, P&L and Day-to-Day are now part of my daily workflow. What used to take hours across multiple tools I now see in one place. Antoine and Maxime are clearly building this with real seller challenges in mind, and they listen.

Amazon reimbursements: frequently asked questions

How the value is set, where credits land, and what Nova does and does not do.

For lost or damaged FBA units, Amazon reimburses based on its own estimate of the item's value, which is usually anchored to your recent selling price minus the fees it would have charged. A practical planning estimate is units affected multiplied by your net proceeds per unit, with your cost of goods as the floor of what the loss is worth to you.
It depends entirely on your unit volume, product value and how much inventory moves through fulfillment centers. Rather than trusting a blanket percentage of revenue, calculate it from your own numbers: affected units multiplied by value per unit, which is what this calculator does.
No. Nova has no case management, no claim filing and no recovery service. It is an analytics platform. Reimbursements and refunds appear in your P&L as the line items they are, so the money credited back shows up against the products and periods it belongs to.
Reimbursement credits arrive on your settlement reports. Nova reads settlement data and maps those credits into your profit and loss alongside refunds, fees and COGS, so a month with unusual reimbursement income does not silently flatter your margin.
Because reimbursement credits are income that has nothing to do with selling more product. If they are not shown as their own line, they inflate your apparent margin. Keeping them visible and separate is the difference between a P&L you can act on and one that misleads you.
That is your call. Nova is the analytics layer that shows what was credited and how it affects profit, not a filing service. Plenty of sellers use a recovery service and use Nova to check what actually landed in their settlements.
